how did ancient egyptians preserve food?

The ancient egyptians preserved food using the following methods;

  1. Sun drying. The ancient egyptians dried fish and poultry using hot desert sun. Areas with similar hot and dry climates found drying to be an effective method of preservation.

  2. Salting. The ancient egyptians also used a method of salting to preserve fish for a long period of time.

  3. Wind drying. The ancient egyptians used to dry food crops in the blowing wind.

  4. Smoking. This was also another method used by the ancient egyptians to preserve food, where food was smoked on fire and afterwards kept for a long period or more days.

  5. Pickling. This was also another method used by the ancient egyptians to preserve food. The food was stored in jars. The jars were useful in preventing harmful bacteria from forming while the food ages. This process helped in marinating food in form of brine or anaerobic fermentation.
